TOP 20 OF 2023

TV DEATH

TV Death are a Newcastle-based psychedelic punk band that have impressed this year with their garage rock-inspired take on the genre; matched with dark, abrasive and razor-sharp lyrics. Their Halloween release, ‘Scarecrow’, was centred on a thumping bass line and intricate guitar melodies, which allowed the band to indulge in their dark side, with a B-movie-inspired music video. The band ended their 2023 with the release of the five-track EP, The God, The One and The Devil. It’s a high-concept release in which the tracks and their accompanying videos link “to make commentary on the pandemic, the cost of living, news cycles, crime, and nuclear armageddon. Linking these themes with a narrative of propaganda and brainwashing to distract the public with these fictitious monsters to avoid solving the real issues at hand and keeping the power out of sight in the hands of the greedy. The power in the hands of this character and their delusion of grandeur to be the god, the one and the devil.” TV Death are definitely ones to keep an eye on in 2024 as they take on even more ambitious projects. -Dan Peeke
